Six valley student bodies have demanded immediate abrogation of Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants while claiming that the insurgent groups have violated the ground rules. They also demanded that necessary action that needs to be taken up against unlawful organisation must immediately be initiated against the Kuki militants.

Claiming that there are evidences of SoO groups violating the ground rules, the student bodies also asked the State and the Centre governments to reveal the steps to be taken against the insurgent groups.

The All Manipur Students’ Union, Manipur (AMSU), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF), Democratic Students’ Association Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and Apunba Imagi Maheirol Singpanglup (AIMS) issued a statement on Thursday, alleging that the Centre has not initiated any action against the Kuki militants who were under SoO even if they are involved in the violence against the Meetei communities in the ongoing crisis which continues till date.

The student bodies claimed that the violence in the State has not subsided since the Centre has failed to initiate any action against the SoO groups and questioned the Centre as to why it still continues to have regular talks with the SoO groups instead of taking up actions against them.

“People have been questioning to the Centre as to why they are not able to stop the SoO groups from engaging in attacks despite having regular talks,” the statement said.

The student bodies also questioned the Centre government whether it was unable to control the SoO groups or it helps the SoO groups.

The statement also said that the student bodies are shock in learning that the Kuki militants under SoO were not in their designated camps when a combing operation was conducted recently after the incident leading to the death of SDPO Chongtham Anand.

“The absence of the SoO militants in their designated camps is an indication that the Kuki militants are involved in the ongoing crisis. And as such, they should be held responsible for ambushing the state forces who were heading towards Moreh,” it said.

If the Centre continues to remain as a silent spectator despite evidences of the Kuki militants violating the SoO rules, the people of Manipur will assume that the Centre in coalition with Kuki militants have attack the indigenous people, it said.
