Sunbird Trust, an NGO working with the Motto ‘Peace through Education’ across the Northeast India provided critically required relief materials to the displaced people in violence- hit Churachandpur District, Manipur on Thursday the 7th September, 2023, in 9 relief centres spread across Churachandpur district.
The relief camps, that benefitted from this distribution were ECA Church at M.Songgel, Martin Luther Academy at New Zoveng, Don Bosco School at Chiengkon, St.Paul Institute at Gochinkhup Veng, Youth Hostel, Immanuel Community Hall, Evergreen School at Tongdam, Bijang Loubuk at Zoveng and St.Joseph School at Singngat.
The relief materials distributed were selected after conducting a need survey with the respective camps and in close consultation with the displaced persons and the camp in - charge. The distributed items included blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets, emergency lamp, dal, potato, soyabean, cooking oil, sugar, milk powder, tea leaves, onion, chilli, Lactogen, Cerelac, Baby diaper, Adult diaper, sanitary pads, tooth brush, tooth paste, soap, surf, shampoos, first aid boxed, exercise books , pencils, crayons, carroms, footballs and volleyballs.
One of Sunbird’s major supporter and donor, Axis Bank Ltd, was instrumental in funding the entire cost of this distribution in Churachandpur district and other parts of Manipur in this time of crisis. Axis Bank has been a steadfast supporter of Sunbird’s work in North East India since the past 4 years and continues to work closely in North East India through the Axis Dil Se Project in the area of School Transformation.
One such example of Axis Bank’s support is Sunbird’s School Transformation Project at Lyzon Friendship School, in Singngat. Through this project Axis Bank is helping keep students in school and offers them an opportunity to empower themselves through quality education.
Dharun Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur district, in a letter to Sunbird Trust, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the district of Churachandpur, for their timely help and thoughtful contribution.
The said relief materials distribution was carried out in the presence of Mrs. Mannuamching, IAS, Relief Nodal Officer, Churachandpur District and Lamminlal Simte, MCS, SDO, Churachandpur.
The relief materials distribution was made possible due to the unflinching patronage and initiative of Col (Retd) Christopher Rego, the Founder and CEO of Sunbird Trust.
Langchinthang Taithul, Principal & Founder of Lyzon Friendship School, Kim Paite, former team member of Sunbird Trust, Minlun, ZYO President, KKL President, General Secretary, YVA, helped in coordinating the relief supplies.
