Tangkhul civil society organisations have written to the Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, requesting the cancellation of the transfer order for Zuringla Kengoo, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul District, Manipur.

The letter was jointly submitted on January 29 by the following organisations: Tangkhul Naga Long, Tangkhul Naga Awunga Long (TNAL) (Tangkhul Naga Headman's Association), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (Tangkhul Headman's Association), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) (Tangkhul Student's Union), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) (Tangkhul Women's Union), and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) (Tangkhul Youth Council).

The CSOs requested the Chief Minister to cancel the transfer order of Zuringla Kengoo and retain her for at least two more years.

The CSOs stated that there is growing public pressure in favor of the immediate cancellation of Zuringla Kengoo's transfer order.

“We request the liberty to highlight her outstanding public service and leadership as Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul District, due to her humane and no-nonsense approach in handling her public and official responsibilities,” the CSOs wrote.

The letter further emphasized that the public of Ukhrul District has greatly benefited from having Zuringla Kengoo as a highly effective and efficient Deputy Commissioner.

On January 28, the Governor of Manipur issued an order regarding the transfer and posting of 60 officers in Manipur. Meanwhile, the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Ukhrul has also expressed strong opposition to the transfer order for Kengoo Zuringla.

In a release issued on Thursday, Haoneo Baite, General Secretary of KSO Ukhrul, stated that at a time when Manipur is grappling with an ethnic crisis and widespread turmoil, Zuringla Kengoo's leadership has been instrumental in ensuring the safety and security of the people of Ukhrul. Under her administration, the district has navigated these challenging times with resilience and stability, he added.

In the interest of the local community, KSO urged the concerned authorities to revoke the transfer order and allow Kengoo Zuringla to continue serving the district during this crucial period.

The Governor of Manipur had issued the transfer and posting order for 60 officers on January 28. Among the officers, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul has been reassigned to the position of Secretary (Science and Technology) and Special Secretary (Health and Family Welfare).
