At the “Wall of Remembrance” Site, a minute silence was observed in honour of David Thiek who was mercilessly beheaded by the Meitei militias. The tribal volunteers also shouted various slogans demanding complete separation from the Meitei government. Later, an effigy of the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba was burnt to show a sign of disapproval against their administration.

It may be mentioned that the alleged state-sponsored ethnic cleansing on the Kuki-Zo tribal community has crossed more than two months with unabated violent attacks and gunfights. The Meitei’s armed groups such as Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Leepun abetted by state security forces attacked the peripheral area of Chinglangmei and Langja tribal villages and burnt down about 30 houses including three churches.

The Meitei militias captured a tribal volunteer named David Thiek and brutally beheaded before callously displayed his head on the fence. His lifeless body was also reportedly thrown into one of the engulfed houses and a few leftover bones were retrieved from the ashes.
