In a resolute declaration, the Village Volunteers – Eastern Zone have issued a strong warning against any attempts to enter Kuki-Zo areas without first addressing the longstanding demand for a Separate Administration/Union Territory with a legislature for the Kuki-Zo people.
This statement comes in direct response to the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS)—a valley-based civil organization—announcing its plan to march toward the hill districts on March 8. The Village Volunteers have made it unequivocally clear: there will be no free movement in Kuki-Zo territories until justice is served and a separate governing structure is established.
Denouncing the relentless injustices, inhumane atrocities, and systematic oppression endured by the Kuki-Zo people, the Village Volunteers have asserted that such sufferings cannot be disregarded under the guise of peace marches. They have categorically stated that those responsible for past violence, those who have denied the rights of the Kuki-Zo people, and those complicit in oppression will not be granted free passage into their lands.
"Our demand for a Separate Administration is not just a political aspiration—it is a necessity for our survival, security, and dignity."
The group has urged all relevant authorities to acknowledge the deep-seated grievances and legitimate demands of the Kuki-Zo people. They have further cautioned that any individual or organization attempting to negotiate or reconcile with perpetrators through the government before the establishment of a Separate Administration/UT will face severe consequences.
The statement emphasizes that the Kuki-Zo people have endured decades of marginalization, discrimination, and violence, and any attempt to downplay their struggle will not be tolerated. The group further called upon the international community, human rights organizations, and all justice-seeking entities to take note of the systematic persecution of the Kuki-Zo people and their rightful demand for self-governance.
Reaffirming their unwavering stand, the Village Volunteers have made it clear that any attempt to violate their territorial rights or forcibly enter Kuki-Zo areas will be met with strong resistance.
"No Free Movement before Separate Administration! Justice and Security for the Kuki-Zo People!"
As tensions escalate, the statement serves as a firm message that the Kuki-Zo people will not compromise on their fundamental rights. The demand for a Separate Administration with legislative powers remains non-negotiable, and any action undermining their movement will face unrelenting opposition.
With the situation intensifying, all eyes are on the developments in the region. The coming days will determine whether the government and other stakeholders acknowledge the call for justice or continue to ignore the voices of a people determined to reclaim their rights and future.
