The Meitei militia group- Arambai Tenggol, has imposed restrictions on election campaigns in the valley areas of Manipur for the ensuing 18th Lok Sabha elections.

On Saturday, Control Room Operator of the Arambai Tenggol, Laishram Robason issued a statement with regard to the restriction.

Robason said there is no need for campaigns, feast, use of loud speakers, hoisting of flag and public meeting in different places amidst the prevailing situation of the State. “Conducting campaigns, organising public meetings in different places will become a factor for disunity among the Meiteis rather than bringing unity,” he said.

Arambai Tenggol also cautioned that organising such activities could also lead to unwanted brawl between rival groups and could even lead to loss of lives.

The militia group advised the people that they should be aware of the possible outcomes in choosing their candidates, but to cast their votes peacefully.

The two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur will go to polls on April 19 and 26. A total of 10 candidates are in the fray – 6 for I-Inner Manipur and 4 for II-Outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies.
