The Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) withdrawing its support to the State government led by Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh would not affect the government in any way as the BJP has absolute numbers, said the Spokesperson of Manipur government, Sapam Ranjan, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, on Monday.

In response to media query regarding KPA withdrawing its support to the Manipur state government, Ranjan said, “I think, with the number that we have and in a democratic process, withdrawal or supporting the government is purely their prerogative and it is a decision they have to make. If that is the decision they have made, as far as the government is concern, I don’t think it would affect government in any way since we have absolute numbers.”

Ranjan said people know that they have demanded for a separate administration or a union territory. However, a stand of all the  MLAs, except for those who have asked for separate administration, is that no form of separate administration should be given, he said.

The spokesperson also said that time and again and repeatedly, the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, has reiterated that there will be no separate administration.

The Centre and State have been putting out all efforts to make sure that the peace returns in Manipur, said Ranjan while adding that the State government is for the people of Manipur and is making sure that every thing that is needed reaches each and every part of the State.

The Kuki People’s Alliance, an NDA partner led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had withrawn it support to Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh-led Government in Manipur, in wake of devastated ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities. KPA has two members in a 60-member House of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The ethnic clash between the two communities continues unabated even after more than 90 days, and many precious lives have been lost, hundreds of people injured, thousands of immovable properties burnt into ashes, and about 60000 people internally displaced.
