A medical team from New Delhi heading for Moreh, a border town in Manipur, was blocked by the Meitei Mob at Wabagai under Kakching district, and sent back to Imphal on June 3, 2023.

All the medicines carried by the team was also confiscated by the mob, sources said.

The Medical teams including a Gynaecologist from All India Medical Sciences (AIMS), New Delhi, were dispatched to Moreh following the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, assurance to the people of Moreh, in a meeting with the leaders of Civil Society Organizations on May 31, 2023.

The Union Minister had earlier visited Moreh and held a meeting with the leaders of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) at 5 AR Head Quarter KLP, Moreh. In the meeting the HM assured that a Medical Team from AIMS Delhi will be dispatched to Moreh after the CSOs put up the shortage of Doctors, Health staff and Medicines in Moreh town, in the wake of ethnic violence in Manipur.

Consequently, a medical team with medicines was sent to Moreh. However, they were blocked and sent back by the Meitei mob on learning that they were heading for Moreh.

Following the incident, another medical team was airlifted and reached Moreh town on June 4. The team included 1-Cardiologist , 2-General Medicine and 1-Child Specialist. The team have now attended patients at Primary Health Centre, Moreh, since June 5.

The timing of the Out Patient Department (OPD) has now been fixed from 9am to 2pm on all working days.
