Indiscriminate firing of live rounds of bullets fired by the Manipur police Commandos stationed in the border town, Moreh, severely hit many residential houses including the house where IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) were stationed.

The incident occurred on July 26 wherein violent broke out after a Kuki-Zo woman was thrashed by security forces stationed in the border town. The IDPs ran for cover and left the camp. Fortunately, none of the IPDs injured in the incident.

Condemning the action of Manipur police commandos, one of the leaders of Moreh CSOs said that the police commando opened fire towards the IDPs Camp with an intention to kill or hurt them. Fortunately, none of the IDPs were injured in the incident.

On the other hand, many residential houses including the residential house of one JN Baite ( former executive member of ADC Chandel) were also hit by bullets. The former member of MDC/ADC Chandel had a narrow escape as he took cover.

Baite said that on 26th July, the security forces accused the people of Moreh for firing towards the security forces but in fact all the gunshots were fired by the security personnel. None of the civilians or volunteers opened fire on that day, he said.

“All the firing was done from the security side as a deterrent or as a blank fire. But the kind of blank fire that they claim was so low that it could have killed innocent women and children,” Baite said.
