A Kuki-Zo tribal woman was shot dead by an unidentified gunman at Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi Mamang Leikai, near Shishu Niketan School, in Imphal West District on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as one Donngaiching, who did not leave Imphal despite the ethnic violence due to her mental illness.

The incident reportedly took place at around 8:30 AM near Shishu Niketan school in Kwakeithel. Imphal West District Police team led by top officers and a team of Forensic Science rushed to the site for inquest.

The team recovered some documents from the deceased woman. Police has registered a case and deposited the body to RIMS Morgue.

Condemning the incident, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) said that no tribals – women, children and even mentally challenged – are safe from the genocidal pogrom of the majority community.

Refuting the false allegation on social media by Meitei propagandist that she (Donngaihching) was suicide bomber, the ITLF clarified that she was a mentally challenged persons who spend her days walking the streets aimlessly and lived in a small shed near a Church in Lamphel area built by sympathizers.

“The disinformation campaign by the state-sponsored IT cell is becoming flimsier every day and does not spare even the mentally challenged,” alleged ITLF.
