The Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland) and all its frontal organizations strongly denounced the ambushed and killing of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) cadre Mr. David Gonmei, on the 24th September 2023, at Phoibut Village, Noney District, Manipur by the suspected NSCN (IM) Faction.

In its press condemnation, the Zeliangrong Baudi said it was deeply pained and angered at the sporadic and intermittent factional killings in the Zeliangrong inhabited areas, while the whole Naga people is yearning for peaceful settlement of Naga political issues.

“Peace time violence and killing is nothing short of ‘crime against humanity’ which all the people and nations considered as adversaries and antigens of a peaceful world,” it said.

The Zeliangrong apex body also opined that its people are peace loving citizens and no faction or group is expected to exercise the maxim of killing as a rule in our land. The Zeliangrong people’s silence and low-profile nature of existence should not be taken as their weakness and ignorance by one and all.

The Zeliangrong civil society Organizations urged all the Naga political groups operating in the Zeliangrong areas to shun all forms of violence and killing in order to usher in an era of peace and tranquility.

A cadre of an insurgent outfit- Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF)- was killed and another reportedly sustained injury in a gunfight with suspected NSCN (IM) militants at Phoibut village, about 6 km from Noney police station in Manipur’s Noney district on Sunday, according to an official report.

David Gonmei, 36, died of bullet injuries when the suspected NSCN (IM) reportedly attacked ZUF cadres taking shelter at Phoibut village.

As per reports, the attacks were followed by an exchange of fire, but the casualty on the part of the NSCN (IM) is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, there is no report from the side of the NSCN (IM), which is under political talks with the central government.
