COCOMI appeals transporters not to ply along NH-2

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has appealed to the transporters not to ply on the National High-way 2, following the declaration of the Committee on Tribals Unity (COTU) on June 4 to temporarily lift the blockade along the highway on temporary basis.

Briefing to the media at Imphal on June 5, coordinator of COCOMI, Jitendra Ningomba said the members of COCOMI has urged the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to open the National Highway uninterruptedly. However, besides, having so much central forces, the government has failed to protect the transporters at the national highway, he said while alleging that the government has not taken up any measures to make free passage to nearly 7 to 8 km long stretch of the road in Kangpoki district. There is no use of plying on the road if the highway is not protected, he said.

The COCOMI also appealed the people to form human chain from 8 pm to 9 pm on June 6 and shout slogans for protection of the territorial integrity, against the formation of a separate administration and also against the alleged Narco-terrorism.

The COCOMI had earlier submitted a memorandum to Amit Shah, through the Security Advisor to Home Kuldiep Singh, urging for immediate action in regards to protection of the territorial and administrative integrity of Manipur.

The memorandum stated that since May 3, 2023, Chin-Kuki Narco-terrorists aggression on Manipuri Meiteis began, which was an impending threat to Indian national security due to the re-emergence of a new golden triangle’ and narco-terror funding in the northeast state of India.

Involvement of Assam Rifles with Kuki narco-terrorist forces would compromise international borders wherein Chinese military influence predominates, it said.

COCOMI also requested the Government to take appropriate measures for the protection of territorial and administrative integrity of Manipur and immediate abrogation of Suspension of Operation with a militants under the umbrella of United People’s Front and Kuki National Organization.
