The Kuki’s top body of Kangpokpi chapter, the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, or the KISH, vehemently condemned the attempt to delete the ‘Kukis’ from the Scheduled Tribe status terming it as a blatant violation of the principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

The Kuki top body also said that such actions not only undermine the constitutional safeguards provided to tribal communities but also perpetuate injustice and discrimination.

KISH Information and Publicity Secretary, Thanglenhao Chongloi said that the Indian Constitution acknowledged the unique cultural, social, and economic needs of Scheduled Tribes, including various tribes under the Kuki community while adding that any attempt to tamper with these provisions goes against the spirit of justice and equality.

He continued that Scheduled Tribe status is crucial for ensuring inclusive representation and addressing historical injustices faced by tribal communities.

“Efforts to erase tribes of the Kuki Community from this category disregard the need for equitable opportunities and representation”, he added.

He also said that erasing tribes of the Kuki Community from the Scheduled Tribe list not only violates the constitutional rights of the community but also perpetuates discrimination and marginalization.

It is essential to uphold the principles of justice, equality, and protection of tribal rights, he asserted.

He also called on the authorities concerned to immediately cease any actions aimed at altering the Scheduled Tribe status of the Kuki community.

He further said that if there are concerns or proposed changes, they should be addressed through a transparent and consultative process that includes representatives from the Kuki community.

KISH Information and Publicity Secretary, Thanglenhao Chongloi also urged the authorities concerned to ensure all actions align with the constitutional values of justice, equality, and protection of the rights of Scheduled Tribes.

While conveying its firm stands in advocating for the preservation of the cultural identity, rights, and well-being of the Kuki community, the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills urged the authorities concerned to respect the constitutional safeguards in place and foster an environment of inclusivity and justice
