Manipur Congress requests PM Modi to declare unprecedented hailstorm in Manipur as National disaster; Seeks grant of minimum Rs.200 crore

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee requested the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to declare the devastated hailstorm accompanied by a strong wind which hit different parts of Manipur on 5th May, 2024 as a ‘national disaster’, and urged to grant an amount of Rs. 200 crore.

 

In this regard, the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Keisham Meghachandra had written a letter to the Prime Minister on May 10 and made a request for  grant of central government’s relief of a minimum of Rs. 200 crore for the affected people of Manipur in a time-bound manner in the larger interest of the people of Manipur

 

“In the history of the state, the people of Manipur have not yet experienced such a natural disaster of such magnitude, which has damaged nearly thousands of houses and affected lakhs of people in the state,” stated the letter.

 

A team of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee led by Meghachandra also inspected houses affected by the hailstorm under Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency on Friday.
