On learning inputs that sections of people made yet again an attempt to pilfer rice meant for the general public, the Zomi Student Federation (ZSF) GHQ on Thursday monitored the transportation of rice from FCI Godown, Tualnuam to FCS Godown situated at Headquarter Veng, during transhipment between the two godowns.

A member from the ZSF said that during the bygone days there were instances where Churachandpur quota rices were pilfered/siphoned off during the course of transporting to the FCS godown, and taken, instead, towards Imphal. However, he said, recently there was an instance where the police succeeded in making a seizure at Thingkhangphai while trying to siphon-off towards Imphal.

He said that today when close monitoring works were made by the ZSF, 13 fully loaded trucks of rice were found supposed to be transported towards the FCS godown, and the students federation kept a close watch on the matter.

Meanwhile, the elected MLAs from the various constituencies of Churachandpur- LM Khaute, Vungzagin Valte, Chinlunthang, Letzamang and Ngursanglur rushed to the FCI Godown and enquired about the position of rice deposits at the godown.

Talking to the media persons, Ccpur AC MLA, LM Khaute, informed that they were there to see about the mode of transportation of rice from FCI Godown to FCS Godown and ensured that there was no unwanted act of siphoning rice. He also informed that their duties were to see that the public receive their dues.

Satminlun Ngaihte, Depot Incharge of the FCI Godown, while speaking to media said that FCI was not under the State and their duty was to receive and distribute as per directions and in doing so, extra care has been taken to maintain proper records of what was received and what was given out and that nothing went haywire in the process.

He also said that once he issued the allotted amount of rice and after it crossed the gate of the FCI godown, it was the responsibility of the State authority to make sure that it reaches the destination and if anything went wrong away from the premises of the FCI godown he could not be held accountable.

In this age of computarisation, everything has been maintained and recorded with great transperancy and there is no room for blunder either intentionally or unintentionally in the FCI godown premises, Ngaihte added.
