The Committee on Tribals Unity Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district vehemently condemned the alleged attempt to intrude into Gamgiphai, the bordering village of Kangpokpi district with Imphal West by the Meira Paibi from the valley.

The committee also urged the Meira Paibi and others not to indulge in such activities which can escalate the violence in future.

An aerial view from a drone footage showed thousands of women, the Meira Pabis, gathering at Kanglatongbi Nepali village, just a few metres away from Gamgiphai who were foiled by the security forces to move further towards the bordering village.

COTU General Secretary, Lamminlun Singsit said that it is very surprisingly unfortunate that the highly regarded Meira Paibi of Manipur has become so violence in creating chaos in the already volatile violence hit-hard Manipur.

He continued that if the security forces had not intervene timely to foil their violence intention to intrude into our bordering village, the situation could turn otherwise as thousands of people on Gamgiphai side are also ready to fight back.

While appreciating the district police, CRPF and the Assam Rifles, especially, the AR Mahila in controlling the situation timely and maintaining the law and order, the COTU Secretary said that the swift and timely action of the security forces in avoiding any unwanted incidents is commendable.

Thousands Meira Paibis were clearly seen gathered along the National Highway at Kanglatongbi and marched towards Gamgiphai. However, the security forces obstructed them to move further and later thwarted them from the spot.

The Meira Paibis were also seen engaging an excavator in dismantling the road leading to Luwangsanggol and Phaileng, the two sensitive bordering villages in the peripheral area of Kangpokpi district.

The road is important and the only connectivity for the security forces for reinforcement in case of any violence at Luwangsanggol and Phaileng village, where the armed miscreants made frequent attack on it.

COTU Secretary, Lamminlun Singsit strongly appealed to the Meira Paibi and various others from the valley to avoid such unwanted activities in the future.

He also urged the concerned authority to revamp the dismantled road at the earliest.
