Manipur Violence: Complete breakdown of ‘Law and Order’, says Group of BJP MLAs

A group of Members of Legislative Assembly from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh, has said that there was a complete breakdown of “law and order” in the State, and alleged that there is no trust and confidence in the Government and administration.

The members urged the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to resort to some special measures by following Rule of Law so as to bring normalcy in the State.

The signatories of the group included Dr. Th. Radhesyam Singh, BJP MLA, 33-Heirok A/C; Nishikant Sing Sapam, BJP-MLA, Keishamthong A/C; Kh. Raghumani, BJP MLA, Uripok A/C; S. Brojen Singh, BJP MLA, Wangjing A/C; T. Robindro Singh, BJP MLA, Thanga A/C; S. Rajen Singh, BJP MLA, Lamsang A/C; S. Kebi Devi, BJP MLA, Naoriya-P A/C and Dr. Y. Radhesyam, BJP MLA, Hiyanglam A/C.

In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, the group of MLAs stated that the present unrest and violence in the state of Manipur which started on the 3rd of May 2023 has completed 45 days.

More than 100 innocent lives have been lost and valuable properties have been damaged due to the ongoing violence despite many steps that have been taken up to bring the situation under control. However, not much improvement is seen on the ground, the Memorandum stated.

“There is a complete breakdown of law and order in the state. Every section of the society has been affected badly and people are suffering most. Every community, every person irrespective of caste, creed and religion wants immediate restoration of peace in the state,” said the MLAs.

The legislative members also stated that at present, there is no trust and confidence in the government and administration. Public have lost complete faith in the present state government, they said.

The signatories urged the Prime Minister that some special measures be resorted for proper administration and functioning of the government by following Rule of Law so that the trust and confidence of the general public is restored.
